Leading the Build of TBI's Data-Mesh Platform

TBI is a group of 17 companies in the Dutch construction and infrastructure sectors. Over a multi-year engagement I was the lead data & platform engineer building TBI’s data platform: a data-mesh architecture with all infrastructure as code in Terraform and Terragrunt, and all standardized CI/CD pipelines built in GitHub. I also helped design the extraction patterns for 4PS, the construction ERP at the heart of the landscape.

A large part of the role was enablement. I coached the BI team (5–8 professionals) in dbt — introducing it, setting the standards and practices — and taught them TMDL, Power BI deployments from code, Git and DataOps ways of working, turning a classic BI team into an engineering-minded one.

Beyond the data platform I supported the integration team in modernizing their infrastructure, moving from Azure App Services to Kubernetes. This engagement rounded me out from data engineer into a well-rounded platform professional who can design, automate, operate and teach the entire stack.
