Building the Heijmans Data Platform and Agentic AI Use Cases

Heijmans is one of the largest construction companies in the Netherlands. I am building the Heijmans data platform: a data-mesh architecture on Azure and Databricks, with all infrastructure as code in Terraform and Terragrunt. Alongside the build I am upskilling the cloud team — moving them from Bicep to a Terragrunt-based IaC way of working.

As a data engineer I am responsible for the data pipelines integrating several core systems, including SAP, Autodesk and M-Files. I also built the standardized CI/CD pipelines for the platform, based on Databricks Asset Bundles and reusable Python packages that serve both the data engineering and data science teams.

On the AI side I work with a team of five data scientists building agentic AI use cases on Databricks — responsible for upskilling the team on the platform and for delivering the use cases to production. I also act as sparring partner for the solution architect.
